Look Back

It’s A Dangerous Thing

It’s a dangerous thing looking back

on the events of your own life

sifting through old photographs and letters

reliving past events again or musing

what might have been if things went differently

If I decided to stay for m adoptive family

or abandon them for the sake of my American family

or should I have left them both to find my own life

To recriminate myself for past deeds done

when I’ve paid the prices many times over

Looking at a tear stained letter, feeling the scars

both bodily and emotional left behind from past choices

Reopening wounds that had once healed

just for the glimmer of a distant memory

It’s a dangerous thing looking back

on the events of one’s own life
